Improve Email Deliverability

Ensure job alert emails reach subscriber inboxes instead of spam folders.

Job alert emails are your board's main re-engagement channel. When alerts land in the inbox instead of spam, subscribers return regularly and your board generates consistent repeat traffic. A few steps improve deliverability significantly.

How Cavuno sends emails

Cavuno handles the email infrastructure for you. Emails are authenticated with SPF and DKIM to prove legitimate origin, sent from dedicated infrastructure, and protected by double opt-in (subscribers must confirm their email before alerts begin). You do not need to configure DNS records or manage email servers.

Help subscribers receive alerts

Even with proper authentication, individual email providers may filter automated emails. These steps reduce filtering.

Ask subscribers to allowlist your sender

Include a note on your subscription confirmation page or in the first digest asking subscribers to add your board's sending address to their contacts. This is the single most effective step for inbox placement.

Encourage engagement

Email providers track whether recipients open and click emails. High engagement signals that emails are wanted. Write clear subject lines that match subscriber expectations, ensure alert filters are well-configured so subscribers only receive relevant jobs, and keep a consistent weekly schedule so recipients know when to expect your emails.

Clean your subscriber list

Inactive subscribers who never open emails hurt your sender reputation. Periodically review your subscriber list in the Job alerts dashboard and unsubscribe subscribers who have not engaged over an extended period. A smaller, engaged list delivers better than a large, inactive one.

Diagnose delivery issues

If subscribers report missing alerts:

  1. Check their status in Job alerts and confirm it shows Active (not Pending confirmation or Unsubscribed)
  2. Ask them to check spam, junk, and promotions folders (Gmail particularly routes automated emails to the Promotions tab)
  3. Verify their preference filters match jobs that have been posted recently (if no jobs match, no digest is sent)
  4. Use the Resend confirmation action if their original confirmation email was lost

Best practices

Do not import purchased email lists. High bounce rates and spam complaints damage sender reputation for all your subscribers, and importing purchased lists will result in your account being banned. Honor unsubscribes immediately (Cavuno processes these automatically via the link in every digest). Monitor your subscriber count trend: a steadily growing, engaged list signals better deliverability than a large, stagnant one. And keep a consistent weekly sending schedule, because subscribers who expect weekly digests and receive them are less likely to mark emails as spam than those receiving unpredictable bursts.
